LOS ANGELES (April 7, 2015) – The “Art of Advocacy: Building Bright Futures” celebration and fundraiser benefiting the Children’s Law Center of California (CLC) will take place at the Japanese American National Museum, 100 North Central Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90012, on Thursday, May 7th from 6pm to 10pm. The event celebrates twenty-five years of unparalleled advocacy on behalf of abused and neglected children by Children’s Law Center attorneys.

CLC’s committed attorneys and social work investigators are tireless advocates for the nearly 33,000 abused and neglected youth in Los Angeles and Sacramento counties, guiding them through the complicated and often overwhelming foster care system and accompanying court process.

To support CLC’s work protecting these vulnerable youth, CLC will hold its annual fundraiser at the Japanese American National Museum in Downtown Los Angeles on May 7, 2015.  The benefit, which will include cocktails, a “Treasure Chest” opportunity draw, live painting, live music, and valuable raffle prizes, will honor The Honorable Michael Nash, former Presiding Judge of the Los Angeles Juvenile Courts and a national recognized leader in the fight to help children and families heal and thrive. Over the course of his 25 years in the Dependency Court, Judge Nash has had a tremendous impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to honor Judge Nash’s legacy.  Please join us May 7th as we gather to ensure CLC’s continued ability to provide each and every foster child with the quality legal representation they need and deserve,” said Leslie Starr Heimov, CLC Executive Director.

Proceeds from the evening will provide essential financial support for CLC’s advocacy on behalf of vulnerable children in the dependency systems in both Los Angeles and Sacramento counties.  A few of the areas where financial support is so desperately needed include prevention of commercial sexual exploitation of children, increased access to mental health services, reduced use of psychotropic medication, and increased stability and permanence for foster youth.
