Advocates in Action: A Night of Impact and Celebration

On October 23, 2025, CLC will host our annual Advocates in Action gala at the historic Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. This event is a gathering of advocates, friends, and supporters who come together to make CLC’s work possible. Every dollar raised goes directly toward our legal advocacy and innovative programming that ensures every child has a voice and somebody fighting for their overall well-being.

Each year, Advocates in Action highlights the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organizations who share CLC’s commitment to its clients in foster care. This year, we are proud to honor Assemblymember Blanca Rubio, BEIS, and the CarePortal for their unwavering dedication to our clients.

The evening will feature delicious food and drink, an exciting live auction, and opportunities to hear firsthand from CLC staff and youth whose lives have been transformed through CLC’s advocacy.

This year’s Advocates in Action comes at a critical moment. For the second year in a row, CLC faces multi-million-dollar budget cuts, leaving our attorneys and staff under immense strain as they continue to fight for children every day. The funds we raise will go directly to sustaining CLC’s unique approach – blending legal advocacy with social work and peer support – so that every child is truly seen, heard, and supported through life’s hardest challenges.

We invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening of community, compassion, and commitment to children in foster care. Together, we can continue to stand as advocates in action.

Our Honorees

Champion Honoree

CLC is honoring Assemblymember Blanca Rubio for her steadfast commitment to children and families in California. Since her election in 2016, she has authored laws to support victims of domestic violence, expand opportunities for children in foster care, strengthen resources for young students, and uplift immigrant communities. A former teacher and school board member with over 20 years in local elected office, Blanca has brought her “students-first” philosophy to the Capitol, championing education, equity, and child welfare reform. Today, she serves as Chair of the Governmental Organization Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Domestic Violence, and remains a persistent voice ensuring the needs of foster youth are reflected in state policy.

Community Hero Honoree

CLC is honoring BÉIS for their extraordinary generosity and compassion for children in foster care. Founded by actress and entrepreneur Shay Mitchell, BÉIS has quickly grown into a leading lifestyle and travel brand known for its stylish, functional bags and accessories. Beyond their products, BÉIS has made a lasting impact in the foster care community – donating hundreds of high-quality suitcases and high-end hygiene and self-care products so children can move from one placement to another with dignity. Time and time again BÉIS has jumped into action in times of crisis, including providing critical support for CL’s clients and staff during the Los Angeles wildfires. Their commitment to giving back reflects a deep belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges.

Community Hero Honoree

CLC is honoring CarePortal in recognition and gratitude for their unique ability to bridge the gap between faith communities and the urgent needs of children and families in foster care. Launched in 2015 by The Global Orphan Project, CarePortal is a technology platform that allows child welfare workers to share specific needs of families in crisis – such as a crib, clothing, groceries, or rent support – directly with local churches and volunteers who can step in to help. This innovative model has mobilized thousands of congregations and community members across the country to provide timely, tangible support that strengthens families and helps keep children safe at home. By turning compassion into action, CarePortal demonstrates the power of community in transforming the child welfare system and providing hope where it’s needed most.
