Children’s Law Center represents all of the 30,000 children and youth within the Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Placer County foster care systems. We are a powerful voice for our clients, fighting in and out of the courtroom for family reunification, permanence, educational opportunity, health and mental health services, self-sufficiency, and overall well-being. We want all of California’s children to have the support they need to succeed. We work to accomplish this goal through direct legal representation for children, multidisciplinary advocacy and support, and public policy.
Children’s Law Center provides skilled legal representation for children and youth under the jurisdiction of the dependency court. Our attorneys appear on behalf of children in day-to-day dependency proceedings, and we represent them in a host of related hearings that seek to ensure the well-being and future success of each child.
We provide an unparalleled level of advocacy to our young clients, which includes the expertise of national and state child welfare law specialists, social work investigators, a mental health advocacy team, peer advocates with lived experience, and staff experts specialized in the areas of immigration, education, juvenile justice, transition age youth (TAY) and the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) advocacy.
Policy & Legislation
We are California’s leading voice on child welfare public policy and system reform. Our policy work is at the forefront in driving local, state and national policy wins that fundamentally improve the child welfare system and its impact on children and youth across the country. Since 2000, CLC has successfully sponsored over 60 pieces of legislation.
