Bringing Holiday Cheer to Hundreds in Foster Care!

Our 2021 Holiday Giving Campaign brought holiday cheer to children and youth in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Placer Counties!

For children in foster care, the holiday season can be less than joyful and there are limited resources to provide the ‘extras’ that many of us take for granted. That is why we are so grateful to the over 300 individuals, community groups, faith communities, businesses and who sponsored a child, hosted a toy drive, or shopped our Wishlist.

CLC is very fortunate to be able to sponsor our annual holiday giving program which has grown each since its inception 17 years ago. Our staff enthusiastically rallied around this effort, and together our Los Angeles and Sacramento offices distributed over 5,000 toys and gifts! In this 2021 holiday season, the project has had more impact than ever. So many families are struggling to afford necessities and cannot purchase holiday gifts. The community stepped up and recognized that we could do so much, and giving even a little makes a real difference.

We want to extend a special thank you to Blackrock, Benjy and Ellen Grinberg, OT 4 Kids, Loyola Marymount University M-School, Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), Latina Lawyers Bar Association, Jenny Sheets, Gamble Jones, Phoebe A. Hearst Elementary School, Doree Shafrir, Belle Perez, Maeve Los Feliz, California Department of Public Health, Kaiser Permanente, Martenson, Hasbrouck & Simon LLP, C&S Companies, and Spark of Love. Your gifts allowed us to make holiday wishes come true by providing toys, books, bikes, scooters, warm clothing, art supplies, sports equipment, baby care essentials, tablets, musical instruments and more.

Hector’s Story

CLC is committed to elevating the voices of children in foster care. Through our peer advocate program and beyond, we believe that youth are the experts of their own experiences and that their vision should drive our priorities and shape the policies that impact their lives. In partnership with Director Joanna Friedman of Magnify, we were thrilled to premiere a collection of videos at our recent Art of Advocacy Gala. These videos spotlight CLC clients sharing with you – in their own words – their experiences in foster care and the role CLC has played for them and their families.

Family is at the heart of our advocacy. As such, CLC strives to keep families together! If a child cannot reside with their parents, the preferred placement is in the home of a loving relative. Watch the video to learn how with CLC’s advocacy Hector was able to unite with his grandmother.
