Advocates Gala 2024 Was A Success!

Thank you to everyone who filled the room with warmth and joy at the Advocates Gala in Sacramento! CLC hosted a beautiful evening of community and commitment to children. The award-winning Grant High School Drumline kicked off the event, followed by an award ceremony in honor of Community Hero, Scott Moak. The audience was moved by an inspiring video featuring CLC staff member, Lola Barber, and her personal journey to becoming a peer advocate. The evening ended with an unforgettable conversation featuring Janay Eustace and Justice Shama Mesiwala as part of an inaugural Fireside Chat. The event raised thousands of dollars to support our clients in Sacramento and Placer Counties!

There is still time to support our young clients in Northern California! Please visit our donation page to provide funding for client needs.

Thank you again to all who attended. We could not have asked for a better night!

May Is National Foster Care Awareness Month

CLC celebrates May as National Foster Care Awareness Month. This month was the anniversary of the case In re Gault, which guaranteed lawyers for youth experiencing the criminal legal system.

Unfortunately, there are 13 states do not guarantee legal representation for young people experiencing the child protection system.

Throughout the year, young people navigating the child welfare system should have a lawyer in their corner advocating alongside them. CLC joined the National Association of Council for Children to push #Counsel4Kids. To learn how you can help advocate for youth at the state and national level, visit the NACC website here: https://naccchildlaw.org/counsel-for-kids/
