Art of Advocacy 2024 Was A Huge Success!

We are still smiling after the joyous night we had with our community! Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Art of Advocacy gala last Thursday. The evening was truly beautiful and inspiring, made even more special by your presence.

Our honorees—Chris Lakey of Kobalt Music and the ABB Financial Literacy Coaches—reminded us of the incredible work being done to create brighter futures for children in foster care. Our guest speaker, author Andrew Bridge, touched our hearts with powerful insights. Latin Grammy-winning musician, Spencer Ludwig, brought energy and joy to the night with his vibrant performance.

Thank you to all the individuals, companies and organizations who supported the event. Your generosity is vital to helping us serve over 20,000 youth in foster care across Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Placer County. If you didn’t have a chance to give, it’s not too late! Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact.

Thank you once again for making this evening unforgettable. Your generosity and passion for advocacy mean the world to us.

CLC Attorney Named Advocate of The Month

We are so proud of attorney Brenda Robinson, who was named Advocate of the Month by the American Bar Association! Brenda, who serves as Chair of the ABA Commission on Youth at Risk, played a critical role in the successful passage of H.R. 9076, the Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act, in the U.S. House of Representatives.

As a CLC attorney, she is known for her consistency, drive, and grace. She provides exceptional legal representation while tirelessly pursuing justice for her clients. In addition to her courtroom work, Brenda is committed to improving the child welfare law community by mentoring new attorneys, speaking at conferences, and promoting race equity in the field. Brenda’s dedication earned her the Outstanding Legal Advocate Award from the National Association of Counsel for Children in 2022.

In announcing the award, the ABA noted it is grateful for Brenda’s impactful advocacy and dedication to the legal profession, as her efforts have made a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families across the nation.

Bravo Brenda!

CLC Has Courageous Conversations In Chicago

Staff members headed to Chicago this month for the 14th Annual National Summit for Courageous Conversation®, with a focus on “Learning, To Be Free,” and emphasizing the need to redefine educational approaches for Black, Indigenous and People of Color.

Courageous Conversations aims to transform understanding of history, institutions, and the costs of system participation by empowering individuals to navigate and challenge these structures.

This was the third year CLC has attended the National Summit. Conference attendee and CLC Housing Program Supervisor, Kim Watson, appreciated that “the conference teaches how to do race equity and social justice work more effectively and boldly.”

Get Ready To Uplift With A Gift!

Join us as we celebrate 19 years of our Uplift with a Gift holiday campaign!

You can make a difference and brighten the lives of children in foster care who won’t otherwise receive holiday gifts. There are three easy ways to get involved:

1) Sign up to support a child, multiple children, or an entire family and fulfill their holiday wish list.

2) Purchase items to be distributed to families from our wish list.

3) Make a monetary donation to the fund and leave the shopping to us.

The deadline to donate is December 13.

Through your generous support, last year we were able to provide gifts (toys, books, clothes, blankets and food) for thousands of CLC’s clients in need. If you would like to sponsor a child, a few children, or an entire family for the holidays, we could use your help!!

Help make the holidays special for children in foster care.

Super Clients Ready For Halloween!

Watch out for tiny, masked super heroes flying around in capes on October 31! Thank you to a generous donor who gave superhero and character costumes to our clients. Our lawyers and investigators were able to give away capes, masks, princess shoes, fairy wings, and character clothing to their young clients. We hope they all have fun trick or treating in style!
