Join CLC in Sacramento for the Advocates Gala!

Celebrate with us in our state’s capitol!

We’re excited to host our annual Advocates Gala in just three months. For over 13 years, CLC has represented thousands of children impacted by abuse and neglect in Sacramento and Placer County. We continue to fight for children and families with help of amazing advocates, allies, legislative partners, and great friends who champion system reform at home and throughout the state.

The Advocates Gala will be an opportunity for us to hear inspiring stories of hope and resiliency and to celebrate the achievements of our young clients, the CLC staff who support them, and of course you – our supporters and fellow advocates. Please save the date and join us on May 29, 2024 at 5:30p.m. for delicious food, music, and more.

Stay tuned for additional details!

CLC Staff Testifies At State Capitol

CLC staff spent a day inside the California capitol building this month to advocate on behalf of our clients.

Executive Director Leslie Heimov & Parent Support Coordinator Cindy Cain spoke during the Senate Human Services Committee hearing called Reforming Child Welfare System: Recent Mandates and Innovations.

Over 45,000 children in the state of California are currently in the foster care system. CLC represents more than half.

Leslie shared our vision for reducing the number of kids by providing true prevention services and supporting the whole family.

An Extra Sweet Valentine’s Day for CSEC Clients

CLC’s clients had an extra special Valentine’s Day!

CLC4’s Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Team spent an afternoon putting together Valentine’s Day gifts for our clients impacted by exploitation.

Too many youth in foster care are lacking the supportive adults in their lives to remind them that they are loved and cared about.

So, our team made sure they had something in their hand to remind them they are valued and worthy! The gifts included messages of positivity and affirmation.

This sweet gift is an example of how our staff works with compassion and kindness toward each young person.

Staff Spotlight: Juan Navarcia

Attorney Juan Navarcia received high praise from a client thanks to his hard work in helping their family avoid the child welfare system.

Juan works with CLC’s grant-funded Family Support & Advocacy Center. FSAC’s mission is to provide early intervention and legal advocacy to former foster youth with closed dependency cases who are now expectant or parenting young children of their own, and are at risk of child welfare system involvement.

Read this testimonial from his client and join us in celebrating Juan for using his expertise to support this young family.

“It has been a pleasure working with Juan Navarcia and the Family Support and Advocacy Center (FSAC) team. When I reached out to the many law offices to seek support and help with my case, I did not feel like I was going to get the help I needed but when I spoke with Mr. Navarcia about my case and he later on informed me that he would be able to represent me in my case, I was so grateful and relaxed to know that I had professional help because I have never experienced court before, especially over my child Kaysee. Working with him I have learned a lot about the law and how things work in the Family Law courtrooms and I am now prepared to represent myself and speak up on my behalf when it comes to making the right decisions for my daughter. I want to thank him once again for being a great attorney and always providing me with accurate information and the best help anyone can possibly get from their family law attorney. The FSAC helped bring peace to my family by helping me to get full legal and physical custody of my daughter and that meant so much to me and I would like to thank Juan and the rest of the FSAC faculty.”

Donor Spotlight: Beis Luggage

The joy of holiday generosity has spilled over into 2024 as we are still beaming from an amazing donation that was made to CLC by BEIS Luggage.

Every year, our Uplift with a Gift program receives thousands of donations of toys, books and clothing for CLC’s young clients. We are always looking for extra support for our older clients, specifically teens and young adults. For this reason, the donation of 200 Weekender Bags and rolling luggage to CLC was so monumental. Not only were the bags beautiful and just what any teenager would want, but they were filled with goodies from the hottest brands – including the highly sought-after Stanley cups!

Over 200 CLC clients walked into 2024 with confidence thanks to BEIS and we are still full of gratitude! Thank you BEIS for your incredible gift to youth in the Los Angeles County foster care system!
