ERDD Faith in Movement

CLC is proud to be a part of the Eliminating Racial Disparity and Disproportionality (ERDD) workgroup. Recently, we attended the ERDD Faith in Motion event along with other partners. The event highlighted the many ways faith communities can serve children and families touched by the child welfare system. Attendees included pastors, leaders in DCFS and ERDD, resources/community partners, and former and current foster youth. The event focused on how faith communities can work with DCFS and other partners to reduce the number of African American children in the child welfare system and provide better outcomes. We know there is still work to be done and the Faith in Motion event was the inspiration we all needed to continue to fill in the gaps for African American children and families.

Donor Spotlight: Hana W.

Hana is an incredible young woman who approached CLC with an ambitious goal: to create 200 “period packs” for our clients. To earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, Hana set out to find donations, sew and craft beautiful bags by hand, and create an informational video for CLC clients who might be too embarrassed to ask their caregivers for period advice. Not only did Hana achieve her goal of creating 200 packs, but she also received hundreds of additional menstrual products that will be distributed to CLC clients. Each pack included a hand-written note of encouragement – something that will mean the world to each recipient. We are so grateful for the confidence the packs will bring to our clients. Thank you, Hana, for this incredible effort!

Farewell Ivy!

After nearly 30 years of advocating for children and youth in the foster care system, CLC Firm Director Ivy Lewis has retired! During her time at CLC, Ivy developed a specialty in mental health and juvenile delinquency court advocacy and is a long-standing member of the Edelman Children’s Court Eliminating Racial Disproportionality and Disparity (ERDD) advisory work group. Ivy has been the Firm Director for CLC LA 3, for 18 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to her firm. She will be missed by many.

Thank you, Ivy, for your many years of dedication to children and families touched by the foster care system.
