Most undocumented children in foster care qualify for some form of immigration relief. However, with recent changes in law and policy, CLC clients are facing new challenges in accessing legal status. In response, thanks to the generosity of several private foundations, CLC launched an immigration program in 2019 that serves to support our undocumented clients.
CLC’s immigration team screens clients for immigration relief, assesses whether they are in need of immigration counsel, and works with case carrying attorneys to secure appropriate dependency court orders. We collaborate with immigration legal service providers throughout California to find attorneys for our clients to handle their immigration matters. On a limited number of cases, CLC attorneys provide direct representation before the Executive Office of Immigration Review (“EOIR”) and applications for relief before USCIS, including:
- Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (“SIJS”)
- Asylum
- U-Visas
- T-Visas
- DACA
